2008 Annual Conference Special Guests

 

John Holbert--Dr. Holbert  has been on the staff of Perkins School of Theology since 1979.  His teaching specialties are Preaching, Hebrew Bible, and Literature & Preaching.  Some of his publications include: Preaching the Ten Commandments, Preaching Job, Holy Root, Holy Branches: Christian Preaching and the Old Testament, Psalms for Praise and Worship, and A Storyteller's Companion to the Bible.

Dr. Holbert is an ordained elder in the Central Texas Annual Conference of the UMC.  He is co-editor of the journal Homiletic; interim senior pastor of First UMC Fort Worth (1994) and First UMC Dallas (1997).

 

Matt Idom--Rev. Idom is currently serving as senior pastor of First UMC Bryan.  He has served many churches in our Texas Conference. He has also served on the Board of Ministry for 8 years, chaired the Communications Committee for 8 years and has served in every capacity there is at Lakeview Summer Camp.  He currently writes a column for the Byan/College Station Eagle newspaper and has a published book "Bird Dogs, Angels, and the Will of God."  Rev. Idom has been married for 27 years to Kelly, they have two children-Ben & Bailey.

 

Velosia Ann Kibe-- Pastor Kibe has served Windsor Village as an associate pastor since June 1997.   She has served in many capacities in our TAC for 21 years, being involved in many community and global ministries.  She preaches in weekly services at WVUMC, as well as revivals, seminars and workshops.

Her most recent mission project has been the Medical Clinic in the 3rd ward of Houston that partners with Christian Alliance and Trinity East UMC.  She has served globally in the Caribbean, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Nigeria, Ghana & Kenya.

Pastor Kibe is married, she and her husband Daniel have a blended family of four children and one grandchild.

 

Peter Storey--The Rev. Prof. Storey is former president of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, past president of the South African Council of Churches and was Methodist Bishop of the Johannesburg/Soweto area for 13 years.

He has authored many publications, including With God in the Crucible: Preaching Costly Discipleship, Revisioning our Wesleyan Heritage in a New Southern Africa, and Listening at Golgotha.  He was a weekly columnist for South Africa's Sunday Independent, a national newspaper.  He presented the Franklin S. Hickman Lectures at Convocation & Pastor's School at Duke Divinity School in 1987.
