The Glass Angel
Jan wrote on 10/7/2008 12:31:29 PM
The Angel had lost her arm and presumably her hand. Not only was God with you and watching over you, but He was reminding you that the only hands he has are yours. So, you and your group as you were working so diligently may be reminded that you were His Hands at this time and in this place. God bless you all.

We lift you up in prayer!
Lack of Donations Challenges Ike Relief

Have you considered a church-to-church partnership program to make repairs to the 200 churches that were damaged? I think churches in the North Texas Conference would be insterested in a program like that.

Galveston needs flood buckets....lots of em.
We are also feeding about 850 meals a day to residents and first responders. Donations would be quite helpful of the cash kind to make this ministry possible.
Also, the children of Galveston Schools have lost most of their uniforms...Talking perhaps 4000 children. At $25/ child we can get them started.
Donations to Moody Methodist in care of Charles Bagley...
My cell is 409-789-1120. Please, we are not equipped to handle clothing at this time....but the need to take care of children is great....Let me know how you can help please.

Clergy Skip Lunch Out; Donate to Relief Instead

Reverend Burton sent this report to me today:
Rev. Taylor
Just wanted to let you know how I spent our money today. My wife and I went to Home Depot, and they donated $100 dollars worth of buckets, lids, and materials. John Earl works there, and they were very good to us.
We then went to the local Dollar Tree, and Dollar General. We were able to average about 3.47 complete buckets for our donation of $112 which is about $32.24 per bucket! We added our own donation to this money and spent a total of $193.42. With the combined funds we know have 6 complete kits along with 6 buckets and lids and a few left over items that will be assembled at Reeves Chapel this Wednesday night along with the items my congregation brings! I am looking forward to delivering these to those in need in the Beaumont area.
Thank you for allowing me to work with the money. It was a real blessing! God bless!

Amerson Brothers Sign New Book; Lead Upper Room Chapel
Mary Beth Gibson wrote on 9/25/2008 8:08:33 PM
The Amerson brothers signed my copy at Annual Conference. It was a joy to have them sign because they are such nice guys, but I must admit that it has been an even greater joy to read their book. It presents a viewpoint that we rarely hear and challenged me to incorporate giving as an integral part of my worship. Would be an asset to every congregation!

My husband is a construction project manager handling retail and residential reconstruction with his own tools avaiable to work. We live in Atlanta and cannot afford the distance bringing a truck full of tools on a volunteer basis unfortunately. He is bilingual in Spanish and hard working if he can be useful to any construction company or insurance company. I can work from anywhere on my computer and can volunteer part time while there...

Shepherd is preparing 30 buckets. We have managed to get our local Home Depot to agree to donating the buckets. You may want to try to get your local Lowes/Home Depot/Hardware store to donate buckets. Pity we don't have nice, big Cross and Flame TXCUMC stickers that we can put on the buckets!

As a member of First Methodist, Longview I am extremely proud of our Bishop. She, as a servant of God, has taken an active role in the recovery process. We should all continue to support her and all effected with our prayers, as well as any other support we can contribute.

I suggest the idea of teams also staying in less-affected areas and making "day trips" into the disaster zones. This may make accommodating teams' lodging needs not a burden on the recovery efforts.

Bellville UMC mission team has set a goal to prepare 500 flood buckets. This will take a little bit of time, but we are hard at work on the project.
We are 70 miles from Houston but suffered no storm damage and no power outages, so our folks are ready to serve.
